An after-hours support program for patients undergoing cancer treatment who require symptom support.
2020-2021
Support and health platform that solves various healthcare challenges for patients undergoing cancer treatment. This program provides symptom management during and after therapy when their local treatment center is closed. It gives patients 24-hour care access throughout the year, allowing them to manage their symptoms while remaining home.
The project aims to digitalize the program with an opportunity to get better assessments, a better understanding of patient state and needs, online sharing of medical records/notes, and better communication between the customer, clinician, and nurse.
Once we comprehended the problem and gathered all the information, we brainstormed ideas and potential solutions in the next step through collaboration, workshops, and other ideation techniques.
We defined the style and created prototypes and mockups of possible solutions.
Once the design had been refined and tested, we implemented the solution. It involved working with developers and engineers and testing the platform.
One of the most challenging discoveries we encountered throughout our discovery and testing of possible solutions was the potential problem of overwhelming users with a lengthy assessment process.
As a solution, through research and the help of a medical professional, we separated the assessment process into smaller pieces. We created a network of symptoms-related sections that are more user-friendly and understandable for patients. Also, we turn to a visual presentation (e.g., body map) where possible. Which, through patient testing, showed to be an excellent direction.
The platform provides detailed assessment, support, and guidance for specific users' needs and health situations.
It's designed to provide guidance and self-management with the help of educational materials and various resources that help users cope with health-challenging situations.
It makes seamless communication with the care professionals through messages or audio/video calls about their needs and states, and receives guidance and support when needed.
